If you are a couch potato, workaholic, travel a lot or simply are not home much a Bengal cat may not be the right cat for you. Bengal cats are akin to a curious toddler with boundless energy. They are extremely curious, intelligent, playful, get into pretty much everything and require play activities to burn off some of their energy otherwise they will get into things around your home you might not appreciate. Your home will need to be “Bengal proofed”.
They are quite a high maintenance cat in terms of the energy required by you to spend time with them, play with them and make sure they don’t get into everything. Since they are extremely intelligent they need things to keep their sharp brain occupied. If you’ve never owned a cat before, owning a Bengal cat is like jumping into the deep end of a pool with no swimming experience. You could be in over your head very quickly. A Bengal cat is definitely not a starter cat.
If you have a lot of energy to keep up with them, time to spend with them and can handle everything in your house being played with and possibly lost or broken and more than just occasional naughtiness in your pet then a Bengal cat could still be a top contender. They are quite affectionate, love to play with their owners and often develop deep bonds and loyalty to their owners. Even though they are a handful they can be quite fun and fill your life with the unexpected.
Here’s a cute video that shows in a humorous way exactly what we mean about the curiosity of Bengal cats.
